Dinner Music is an exhibit that happens every day from 6pm to 9pm, EST. It is, as the name implies, Dinner music. This is a broad range of music that the director enjoys listening to over dinner with his family and friends. The music is usually fairly consonant with very few jagged edges. The song length is always under 10 minutes and it is stylistically restricted – there is no opera (in fact there’s almost no opera in the Museum, as the director finds it disagreeable), rap, hard rock, noisy avant garde material, or much aggressive music in general. There is a preference for softer styles, although this can lead to some interesting choices, for example bands like Lali Puna or Broadcast, who do make rather gentle music that has noisy elements. There is a lot of popular music, atmospheric jazz, ambient music, folk music, some classical, some few examples of pop music from the Global South, and much more. The arrangement of songs will shift over time, as will the presence – some music will be removed, others added over time.
